A Xavierite’s Prayer

O Lord, I pray that as a true Xavierite I may walk in the footsteps of St. Francis Xavier. Detached from the fruit of my actions, may I always seek God’s greater glory and not my own name, fame and personal gain.

Gifted with a brilliant mind, St. Francis strove for excellence. May I, as a Xavierite, give of my very best to the task at hand developing my talents to the full.

Pursuing his studies at the University of Paris, St. Francis realized the futility of empty, vain self-glory. As a person of depth and vision, may I as a true Xavierite be discerning, always choosing the greater spiritual good beyond the self.

St. Francis travelled to the far ends of the world, ceaselessly seeking God’s will, selflessly serving with love, people everywhere. May I as a Xavierite, rise above narrow domestic walls of caste, class, community, creed and race to embrace all as my brothers and sisters.

St. Francis was a person always on the move, ever open to new experiences. May I as a Xavierite, be open to change and break away from the familiar, beaten track. As a pioneer, may I go where there is no path and create a new path.

St. Francis always had a deep love for the poor as a Man for Others. As a true Xavierite, may I always keep the poor at the centre of my concerns. Fearlessly speaking and acting for what is just and right, may I never bend my knee to insolent might. Amen
