Who We Are

St. Xavier’s High School, including its Primary and Kindergarten Sections, is run by ‘The Nasik St. Xavier’s Society’, an Educational Trust established by the ‘Society of Jesus’, a Christian Religious Order founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola in 1540. This Society has been active in the field of education throughout the world ever since its origin. The first Jesuit Educational Institution was established in Goa, India, in 1542, by St. Francis Xavier, the patron of this school. Today, in India alone, the Society of Jesus is responsible for over 120 Schools and 25 Colleges, in which a large number of young people, belonging to every social class, community and linguistic group is being educated through the English medium as also through the medium of nine regional languages.

VISION

To promote a society based on love, freedom, liberty, equality and fraternity.

Mission

MISSION

Xavier’s aims at making its own contribution towards the radical transformation of present-day social conditions, so that the principles of social justice, equality of opportunity, genuine freedom, respect for religions and moral values enshrined in the Constitution of India may prevail and the possibility of living a fully human existence may be open to all.

Xavier’s strives hard to promote education which makes its students not mere scholars but men and women of reflection and action. This will enable them to make choices and decisions which would be beneficial for themselves and others. As a Jesuit document ‘The Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm on Education,’ puts it: We aim to form leaders in service, in imitation of Christ Jesus, men and women of competence, conscience and compassionate commitment.”

Thought Behind Logo

Thought Behind Logo

The Logo is divided into three sections. The top left section is a sun like seal which contains the name of Jesus. It is represented by the words ‘IHS’ which are the first three letters in Greek of the name of Jesus. It is surmounted by a Cross and is the monogram of the Society of Jesus which runs St Xavier’s School. The sun is a symbol of the light of knowledge and the quest for perfection. It reflects the teachings of Jesus Christ when He said, “I am the light of the world.” And He said to His disciples, “You are the Light of the world.”

The top right section contains the moon-like checkered and inverted crescent which is taken from the coat of arms of the House of Xavier. It symbolises the special patronage of the Apostle of India, St Francis Xavier after whom the school is named.

The lower section has a crane that mythologically is supposed to wait for the rains to quench its thirst. It is symbolic of every Xavierite who thirsts for the river of holiness (knowledge and virtue) and so we have at the base of the Logo, the Sanskrit words meaning thirsting for the river of holiness.
